The “How Did We Get” Video Series…

Have you ever wondered why Christians, perhaps yourself included, affirm certain doctrines? Or maybe you have wondered why Christians and Jews separated into distinct religions or why theological liberals and conservatives so seldom attend the same churches?

“How Did We Get...” is a 6 video series designed to help you find some answers. For each topic, we have a short video available here with a corresponding outline, discussion questions, and glossary. Each session is intended to give you the beginning of the story. More could—and should—be said about all of them, but our hope is to provide a useful introduction to these key topics.

 
 

Meet our Presenter: Dr. Sarah Ruble

Sarah Ruble was born and reared in Washington State. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at Seattle Pacific University and her Master of Theological Studies and her Ph.D. in American religious history from Duke University. Since 2007, she has been a professor in the Department of Religion at Gustavus Adolphus College, primarily teaching courses in the history of American religion and Christian theology. She is the author of The Gospel of Freedom and Power: Protestant Missionaries in American Culture after World War II. Her most recent work is a YouTube-based adult Sunday School curriculum on the history of Christianity and racism in the United States, available at sarahruble.com. She is a frequent teacher and guest preacher in Minnesota churches and lifelong learning programs. In August 2022, she joined the Provost’s Office at Gustavus as Associate Provost and Dean of Academic Programs and Accreditation. She lives in St. Peter, Minnesota with her husband and son.
